I highly recommend Reclaim The Net for keeping up with some of this content. In today’s feed from them I see the below.
US Senator Michael Bennet Invokes EU’s Censorship Demands, Calls For Big Tech to Censor “Misinformation”
The turbulent situation between Israel and Hamas was recently seized upon by Democratic Senator Michael Bennet as another pretext to launch an offensive against the digital landscape.
Bennet targeted X, Meta, TikTok, and Alphabet in a letter dated October 17, imploring them to “extinguish the proliferation of inaccurate and misleading content” related to the Middle East conflict.
Particularly when there is a highly worrisome event in the world it is very important that people be free to share their thoughts on it and communicate with one another online. Such moves as the above are a blatant attempt to limit what can be said on online major platforms to whatever narrative the government approves of. Calling it “misinformation” is disingenuous. The so-called “fact-checkers” are controlled opinions on what is true quite often. We saw this during the COVID crisis. Many things were called “misinformation” and highly censored across multiple platforms that were later admitted to be true and are now part of the sanctioned narrative.
German Health Minister Complains About “Misinformation Pandemic,” Social Media Scrutiny Of Health Officials
During an appearance at the World Health Summit, an annual meeting where individuals from the public and private sectors discuss global health challenges, Germany’s Health Minister, Karl Lauterbach, lamented the way social media allows the public to question decisions made by public health officials and claimed it creates an environment where “we now have…the info and then a pandemic against us.”
So they want to make it so that only the official narrative can be heard in social media and no questioning of the narrative is allowed? That is neither science or in keeping with Free Speech. Lack of Free Speech and alternative points of view is deadly to Science and to Democracy.
The FDA Takes Aim at So-Called “Misinformation,” Funds “Pre-Bunking” Research
So – does anybody have a recommended “medicine” – maybe, a vaccine – against government institutions trying to convince you, like some carnival hypnotist might do for fun, that – “if I say it’s not true, it must not be true…”
Yes – independent media is one “remedy” but even there, one has to be careful.
And with this in mind, here’s the US Food and Drug (FDA) joining a litany of similar agencies now just frankly whining, about how their “war on information” somehow – even though the legacy/corporate media that transmit their messages on the daily, occupy pretty much every corner of mainstream sources of information for most people, all the time – still not getting enough traction?
WHO Director-General Complains “The Spread of Misinformation” Undermines “Faith in Our Institutions”
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) – and one on whom the pandemic has not been kind, but not from the health, rather, from the diplomatic/political integrity point of view – is complaining again.
It’s by now the old song-and-dance that various global groups, official or otherwise, are constantly trying to push on the world’s nations. Their message: it’s not “institutions” that are crooked to begin with – it’s that “misinformation” just “made them” look like that.
And now, the problem is not the crooked institutions, and the task is not in improving them, but simply in how to convince people there’s nothing wrong. So we “combat misinformation” – with…more censorship.
How many lives were lost during COVID due to heavy censorship of early treatment protocols by even medical professionals with excellent credentials?
How many lives were lost by the official narrative spreading the falsehood that Ivermectin is just “horse de-wormer” instead of one of one of the most potent general anti-viral medications acknowledged as such for over 40 years? If you said otherwise, regardless of credentials you could be de-platformed and your reputation destroyed.
There was an official study or two of dubious methodology and conclusions that claimed there was no benefit to Ivermectin. There were countless much more thorough and well vetted studies that it was highly effective but such stories were not approved by the official narrative. Most people never even got to here about them.
How many died because growing highly concerning information about COVID vaccine complications and injuries was highly suppressed?
There is of course no way to answer how many. But the harm from shutting down free speech about this or any subject is obvious enough.
But here we are being asked to support more of the same but with sharper teeth.
