Of couroe they won’t call it that. Instead they will insist they are protecting us. How? By criminalizing all narratives that disagree with what the government wants to claim is true.
You would think that some of the worst of the COVID prpoganda and censorship would lighten up now that many of the approved positions have been proven lacking and it has come out just how deeply government coerced and attacked free speech on social media. But that is not the case. Government is demanding from Meta information on all groups and users that posted information other than what government was claiming regarding COVID and treatments of it. Here, after so many government claims and policies were rolled back as “mistakes”.
Court Orders Facebook To Comply With Subpoena For Data On All Users That Broke “Covid-19 Misinformation” Rules
The District of Columbia (DC) Court of Appeals has rejected Meta’s appeal to quash a sweeping subpoena that demanded it hand over “documents sufficient to identify all Facebook groups, pages, and accounts that have violated Facebook’s COVID-19 misinformation policy with respect to content concerning vaccines” to the DC government.
Millions of users, many of whom made truthful statements that challenged the government’s Covid narrative, are likely to be swept up in this government data grab due to the scope of Facebook’s “Covid-19 misinformation” rules and the number of users that were impacted by them.
Facebook’s Covid-19 misinformation rules prohibited many truthful statements during the pandemic. For example, at one point claiming that “vaccines are not effective at preventing the disease they are meant to protect against” was banned — an assertion that health officials have now reluctantly admitted is true.
Even Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged that Facebook censored truthful information.
And millions of people were impacted by these far-reaching censorship rules. In some quarters, Facebook censored over 100 million posts for violating these rules. Some of the groups Facebook took down under these rules also had hundreds of thousands of users.
What manner of country do we now live in? We in the America used to rightly villify USSR for similar oppression and defial of any right to free speech. So far we aren’t likely to be hauled off to the Gulag but I remember during the height of COVID madness when there were politicians calling for jailing those that disagreed ot that elected not to get the vaccine. I remember how dangerously close to being hauled away for thinking and concluding differently we really came. I remember how much freedom was stripped away.
You would think after calling for forgiveness as they “merely made a mistake out of good motives” for the politicians behind so much tyranny and misery that they would at least lie low and let it rest. Things like the above argue this is not the case.
We must ask why? Why would they push such measures even now unless they really are after tyrannical control and especially after cowing and silencing the people?
Let us not fool ourselves that the worse is over. Worse is coming. They heart of the evil done to us is neither punished or renounced. It parades instead as “for our own good”. We must remain vigilant. We must remain ready to oppose any more of this tyranny by all means necessary.
What does this have to do with privacy? Governments that wish to control what can be communicated freely among the people are and will come after the means to communicated with one another outside their current control. It is easy to pressure Big Tech to go along as government has countless not toothless ways to extort what it wants from such corporations. Government is also attempting to control access to the internet with measures currently to protect the children by forcing age verification, which is version of digital ID to access the internet. Under the guise of fighting CSAM governments are pushing measures to break end to end encryption, especially of messages. Isn’t it obvious this plays into the hands of governments that want to control what the people think and what they can read and hear?
Dark times are in front of us if we don’t constantly shine a bright light on what is being done and why.
